An Indian Air Force (IAF) Chinook heavy-lift helicopter set a new flying record in India by completing a non-stop sortie from Chandigarh to Jorhat, Assam.

Covering a distance of 1910 kilometers in 7 hours and 30 minutes, the feat was achieved through the impressive capabilities of the Chinook and meticulous planning and execution by the IAF’s Western Air Command.

The Chinook, known for its versatility in transporting personnel and cargo, is also essential for humanitarian and disaster relief missions. Its rapid mobility enhances the IAF’s operational efficiency.

In March 2019, the IAF officially welcomed the CH-47 (F) I Chinook into its fleet at Air Force Station. The procurement of 15 Chinook helicopters from Boeing Limited in 2015 has significantly bolstered the IAF’s capabilities in Chandigarh and the North East.

Customized to meet the IAF’s future needs, the Chinook features a state-of-the-art digital cockpit management system, advanced cargo handling capabilities, and an electronic warfare suite.
