Indian and Chinese Corps Commanders convened for the 15th time on Friday to address ongoing tensions in eastern Ladakh. The meeting took place at the Chushul-Moldo border personnel meeting point, starting at 10am and lasting until late evening.

The Indian delegation, led by Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta of XIV Corps, responsible for guarding the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, hoped to discuss disengagement from Patrolling Point (PP) 15 in the Hot Springs area, where Chinese troops are currently positioned on the Indian side of the LAC.

On the Chinese side, Maj Gen Yang Lin of the South Xinjiang Military District headed the delegation, aiming to address the situation at the Bottleneck area near Depsang Plains, where Chinese troops are obstructing Indian access to traditional patrolling limits.

Additionally, Chinese troops in Demchok have occupied Indian territory, refusing to vacate it. Both sides expressed optimism for progress in reducing the number of troops and weapons deployed in the region.

Since the standoff began in May 2020, troops have been withdrawn from various points, creating temporary no-patrolling zones to prevent accidental face-offs. However, both sides maintain a significant military presence in the region, with over 50,000 troops each, along with air defense systems, artillery, tanks, and other weapons.
