Atiq Ahmad’s son, Asad, was buried on Saturday in the Kasari Masari village in Prayagraj, with the presence of relatives and security. The burial of his associate, Ghulam Hassan, took place in the Mehenddauri area.

Both bodies were brought to Prayagraj by road on Saturday morning under heavy police security. The two individuals were carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh each in connection to the Umesh Pal murder case. Asad, who was the third of Atiq Ahmad’s five sons, had been absconding since the murder of Umesh.

The family members of Asad and Ghulam had gone to Jhansi to claim the bodies, which were supposed to arrive on Friday evening. However, the completion of postmortem formalities led to a delay, according to a police official.

Asad’s body was taken directly to the graveyard in Kasari Masari village, where Atiq’s father, Feroz Ahmed, had been buried. There was heavy police deployment both inside and outside the graveyard, with restricted entry.

Earlier, Ghulam’s family, including his mother, had refused to claim the body, justifying the police encounter.

“The last rites of Asad Ahmad have been completed and it took about an hour. A few distant relatives of Atiq and some people from the locality were allowed to attend the burial. This was necessary for security reasons,” said Joint Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, Akash Kulhari, to PTI.

After Asad’s burial, maternal grandfather Hamid Ali said, “A number of family members took part in the last rites. However, among the very close relatives, only his uncle (&phupha&) attended the last rites.”

Ali also mentioned, “No family members or relatives were stopped from coming to the graveyard, and the burial rituals were conducted properly. We have no complaints with the administration, and everything was done in a good manner. Around 100 persons attended Asad’s last rites.”
