India’s Armed Forces, recognized as among the best and most professional globally, owe their success to the sacrifices, courage, and hard work of their veterans, stated on Saturday.

During the seventh address to ex-servicemen, it was highlighted that all three branches of the armed forces are well-prepared to tackle any challenges, thanks to the contributions of the veterans.

The Army Chief was joined by Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and IAF chief Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari at the event, where representatives from various ex-servicemen’s organizations were also present.

Armed Forces Veterans Day, celebrated on January 14, commemorates the retirement of India’s first Indian Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal K M Cariappa, in 1953.

Admiral Kumar emphasized that Veterans Day serves as a tribute to India’s brave warriors who dedicated their lives to the nation. He pledged the Navy’s commitment to upholding the veterans’ legacy through initiatives like the INS Mormugao stealth destroyer.

Highlighting the IAF’s progress, Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari noted the significant contributions of veterans in shaping the force into a formidable presence in the region. He emphasized the importance of their vision, hard work, and selfless service.

He also mentioned the operation of 156 SPARSH service centers for pension claims within IAF commands, along with efforts to secure policy amendments for liberalized family pensions in flying accident cases.

Expressing the IAF’s unwavering support for veterans’ welfare, he reiterated the commitment to the adage of serving those who have served.

The Army chief expressed pride in the valuable contributions made by veterans of the armed forces to the nation’s progress in various fields.

Recently, the Union Cabinet approved the revision of pensions for armed forces pensioners/family pensioners under OROP from July 1, 2019.
