Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday. During the meeting, he briefed the Prime Minister on the developmental activities in the state and invited him to lay the foundation stone for the Kamakhya Corridor Project and unveil the statue of legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan in Jorhat.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the chief minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his guidance and leadership. He also informed the Prime Minister about the ongoing pro-people programs in Assam.

Sarma also extended an invitation to PM Modi to inaugurate the Tinsukia Medical College and lay the foundation of Sivasagar Medical College. Last year, the Assam government announced plans to celebrate the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan with various initiatives.

Lachit Barphukan, known for his victory against the Mughal forces in the Battle of Saraighat, is considered one of Assam’s greatest military heroes. Sarma highlighted Barphukan’s importance in Assamese history and compared his stature to that of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra.

Additionally, Sarma discussed the Assam Business Summit with PM Modi and sought his advice on organizing the event in 2024. He also met with Railway Minister and Finance Minister to discuss infrastructure development and central government support for Assam’s growth. Sarma also met with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena during his visit to New Delhi.
