India is committed to safeguarding its borders and will not tolerate any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made this clear during a speech to the foreign diplomatic corps, emphasizing that any departure from established understanding will result in India’s own responses. He also stated that India has been in discussions with China for the past two years regarding a border dispute in Eastern Ladakh.

Jaishankar highlighted the importance of self-reliance in strengthening India, noting that past globalization efforts weakened the country’s defenses. This realization has fueled the commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat. Additionally, he expressed India’s disappointment with the declining effectiveness of the United Nations, while reaffirming India’s support for the international community’s efforts.

The Minister also credited diplomacy for successfully combating terrorism by delegitimizing and cutting off support for such activities. He mentioned India’s aspiration to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group, despite facing political obstacles, which are believed to be related to China’s objections.

Regarding India’s relations with its neighbors, Jaishankar emphasized India’s generous and non-reciprocal approach. He highlighted India’s support for its neighbors during the Covid pandemic and economic challenges, stating that India will continue to provide assistance.

Furthermore, Jaishankar underscored India’s focus on its extended neighborhoods through initiatives like the Act East policy, Gulf engagement, and Central Asia initiative. He emphasized India’s heightened commitment to these regions through leadership attention, diplomatic efforts, practical projects, and collaborative activities.
