India reported more than 167,000 new Covid-19 cases and 1,192 deaths in the 24-hour period ending at 8 am on Tuesday, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This is an increase from 959 deaths recorded on Monday.
The total number of cases in India has now surpassed 41.4 million, with the death toll exceeding 496,000.
The daily positivity rate was 11.69%, and the weekly positivity rate was 15.25%, as reported by the health ministry.
On Tuesday, over 254,000 recoveries were also reported, bringing the recovery rate to 94.60%. The number of active cases currently stands at 1,743,059, accounting for 4.20% of the total cases.
To date, 1.66 billion vaccines have been administered in India, with 75% of the adult population fully vaccinated.
