India categorically rejected the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) concerns about changes to the Constitution that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi criticized the OIC’s statement as misinformed and malicious, questioning its allegiance to a country known for human rights violations and supporting cross-border terrorism. Bagchi, in response to media queries, denounced the OIC’s actions without specifically naming the country involved.

The MEA spokesperson emphasized that such statements from the OIC only serve to undermine its credibility. The OIC had expressed worry over a recent Supreme Court ruling and reiterated its support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a significant decision, the Supreme Court overturned the Modi government’s decision to revoke Article 370, restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and setting a deadline for Assembly elections by September 30, 2024. The court also upheld the creation of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
