India participated in a two-day conference hosted by Uzbekistan in Tashkent to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. The conference, titled “Afghanistan: Security and Economic Development,” was attended by about 20 countries. India was represented by J P Singh, the joint secretary in charge of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran at the Ministry of External Affairs. Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi was also present at the conference.

The meeting aimed to develop measures and proposals for promoting stability, security, and post-conflict reconstruction in Afghanistan. Representatives from various regions, including Central and South Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific, participated in the discussions to find solutions to the Afghan issue.

The conference focused on establishing a common position among the world community to counter terrorism and facilitate constructive dialogue between the current government in Kabul and Afghanistan’s neighboring countries. The Uzbek government expressed its commitment to promoting lasting peace in Afghanistan to achieve sustainable development in the Central Asian region.

India has been actively engaging with other countries regarding the situation in Afghanistan. Last month, India re-established its diplomatic presence in Kabul by deploying a technical team to its embassy. India has also provided humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in recent months. In November last year, India hosted a regional dialogue on the Afghan situation, which was attended by representatives from Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
