Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the establishment of PM MITRA mega textile parks in Gujarat and six other states – Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. He emphasized that these parks will attract significant investments and generate numerous job opportunities.

The PM MITRA mega textile parks will offer modern infrastructure for the textiles sector, attracting substantial investments and creating numerous jobs. Modi tweeted that these parks will exemplify the “Make in India” and “Make For the World” initiatives, and will support the 5F vision (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign) to boost the textiles sector.

The Minister of Commerce, Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food, Public Distribution, and Textiles, announced that these mega textile parks will be established with an outlay of Rs 4,445 crore, marking the largest infrastructure initiative in this sector. These parks are expected to create 20 lakh direct and indirect jobs and attract an estimated Rs 70,000 crore of domestic and foreign investment.

Gujarat’s mega textile park will be situated on 1,142 hectares of government land in Vansi Borsi village of Navsari district. The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) proposed the establishment of the textile park in the Vansi Borsi village.

The park will include processing houses, spinning units, weaving units, garmenting units, warehouses, packing houses, specialized and value addition work, and effluent treatment plants, among other facilities. The park aims to reduce logistic costs by consolidating all activities in one location.

The Minister elaborated that the mega textile parks will demonstrate sustainability with zero liquid discharge, common effluent treatment, use of emission-free renewable energy, and adoption of global best practices.

The Minister also described the announcement by the Prime Minister as a significant step towards making India a global textiles hub. He emphasized that this cluster-based approach will enhance product quality and competitiveness, boost exports, and strengthen India’s position in global supply chains.

In his Facebook post, the Minister highlighted India’s rich tradition of textiles and its potential to become a global investment, manufacturing, and export hub. He emphasized that the PM MITRA park is a major step forward to achieve the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and ‘Vocal for Local’ initiatives.

The Minister further stated that the PM MITRA parks were selected through a transparent process, validated by the innovative PM GatiShakti National Infrastructure Master Plan. He also mentioned that the establishment of these parks is an example of collaborative federalism, with both the Centre and the states being partners in the Special Purpose Vehicles that will manage the parks.

The PM MITRA initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to sign free trade agreements, which will open up developed markets for Indian textiles and apparels. India has already signed trade deals with the UAE and Australia, and is in negotiations with Canada, the UK, and the European Union.
