India emphasized on Thursday that it has formed economic ties with Russia and urged against politicizing the relationship.
The statement from External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi was in response to queries about Western criticism of India’s trade links with Moscow.
During a press briefing, Bagchi clarified that India has been transparent about its dealings with Russia, pointing out that even Europe continues to import crude oil from Russia.
“We have established economic relations with Russia and our main focus is on maintaining stability in these relations under the current circumstances,” he stated.
Bagchi also mentioned ongoing discussions to determine a suitable payment method between India and Russia given the present situation.
