The ongoing protests against the Agneepath scheme have impacted a total of 612 trains, with 602 of them being cancelled and 10 partially cancelled, according to the Railways Ministry. Among the cancelled trains, 223 are mail and express trains, while 379 are passenger trains. Additionally, four mail/express trains and six passenger trains were partially cancelled. The worst-affected zone has been the East Central Railways, headquartered in Bihar, which comprises Sonpur, Danapur, Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, and Dhanbad railway divisions. Around 350 trains in this zone remain cancelled, including those that pass through it. Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) has cancelled at least 26 trains due to violent protests and floods in several places in Assam. Many trains have been short-terminated, short-originated, diverted, or rescheduled, according to an NFR official. In addition to the trains cancelled on Monday, another five have been cancelled for Tuesday, said NFR chief public relations officer Sabyasachi De. Meanwhile, a delegation of senior Congress leaders approached President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday and demanded the rollback of what they called a “poorly conceived” scheme. The Congress leaders also sought the initiation of “breach of privilege” proceedings over the “vicious attack” of the Police on party MPs who were protesting against the ED’s questioning of in the National Herald case.
