An Army soldier was fatally wounded and another was injured in an accidental shooting in the Bandipora region of north Kashmir on Sunday, according to police. The soldier responsible for the shooting has been taken into custody.
The incident took place near Arin village. In a tweet, the Bandipora police reported, “There has been an accidental discharge of a weapon resulting in one fatality and one injury to army personnel. The accused army personnel has been detained. Necessary legal action has been initiated.”
Although the police and army have not disclosed the specific details of the accidental shooting, sources within the police department indicated that the sentry panicked after spotting a bear and fired shots. The bullets struck two Army soldiers, one of whom tragically passed away.
