Union Home Minister Amit Shah downplayed the Saddam Hussein remark made against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by a BJP leader, stating that such comments should not be taken too seriously. The Assam Chief Minister’s comments on Tuesday drew a sharp rebuke from the Congress, which labeled them as “obnoxious and totally unacceptable.”

Speaking at the Times Now Summit, Shah emphasized that such remarks should not be blown out of proportion, especially during election times. He acknowledged that such comments are made during elections, but they do not necessarily sway voters. At a public rally, Sarma had commented on Gandhi’s appearance, comparing it to Saddam Hussein and suggesting a more favorable resemblance to historical figures like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel or Jawaharlal Nehru.
