India has strongly criticized the vandalism of a sign board at a park in Brampton, Canada, which was recently named after the Bhagavad Gita. The Mayor of Brampton clarified that the police have investigated the incident and it was simply a matter of maintenance and reprinting work. Previously known as Troyers Park, the park was recently unveiled with its new name. The High Commission of India in Canada tweeted condemning the hate crime and urging Canadian authorities to take prompt action. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown quickly clarified the situation, explaining that the blank sign was a placeholder until the permanent sign could be replaced. He thanked the Indian community for bringing the issue to their attention, ensuring that Brampton remains a safe and inclusive place. The Mayor also mentioned that the sign was damaged during installation and needed unplanned maintenance for reprinting. Prior to the investigation, Mayor Brown stated that Canada has zero tolerance for such attacks and assured that the Parks department is working to resolve the issue. This incident follows the defacement of the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir by Canadian Khalistani extremists. India issued an advisory highlighting the increase in hate crimes, sectarian violence, and anti-India activities. Indian nationals and students in Canada are advised to remain cautious and vigilant. Canada has a large Indian-origin population and is a popular destination for higher education, with many Indian students choosing to study there.
