India reported 50,407 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, a decrease of approximately 13% from the previous day’s total of over 58,000 infections. The country also recorded 804 Covid-related fatalities, bringing the death toll to 5,07,981.

The daily positivity rate fell to 3.48%. Currently, there are 6,10,443 active cases, accounting for only 1.43% of the total cases. With 1,36,962 individuals recovering from the virus, the recovery rate is now at 97.37%.

A study conducted by America’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that booster shots may lose effectiveness after around four months. This raises the possibility of individuals at high risk needing a fourth dose to combat complications or death. The data released on Friday provides real-world evidence of mRNA shots’ declining efficacy against moderate to severe illness in the United States.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top Covid-19 advisor for the Biden administration, mentioned the potential need for a fourth dose booster shot for those receiving mRNA vaccines, based on age and underlying health conditions.
